From 2026, all traders in Italy, from retailers to hotels, restaurants and service companies, will be able to report their sales in real time and seamlessly to the Italian tax authority(Agenzia delle Entrate) without having to rely solely on fiscal printers or servers.
It means that retailers can issue fully compliant receipts directly from devices such as iPads or SoftPOS terminals. This was previously not possible as long as only fiscal printers were used.
From 2026, Italian retailers will be able to connect their POS systems to a cloud-based fiscal solution. This will enable direct and immediate reporting to the Agenzia delle Entrate from any POS device. While a connection to certified hardware was previously mandatory, the certified solution will also be available as software in future.
The law also stipulates that payment terminals must be properly registered with the Agenzia delle Entrate. efsta will ensure full compliance with this requirement.
Since 2019, Italy has been using Registratori Telematici (RT), i.e. fiscal printers or servers, to transmit sales data to the tax authorities.
From 2026, this system will continue to evolve: both RT devices and cloud-based fiscal solutions will be recognized as valid ways of transmitting fiscalized data to the authorities.
This solution remains valid and can be used immediately. The current efsta solution is compatible with RT printers such as Epson FP-90III, FP-81II or custom models.
Advantages include offline support, independence from external portals, secure data transmission and proven legal compliance.
A fully software-based model enables direct, cloud-based communication with the tax authorities.
The architecture is based on two modules MF1 and MF2. It offers high scalability and flexibility.
