Since January 1, 2026, Italian companies have been required to connect their electronic cash registers (telematic cash registers) to payment terminals. The requirement imposed by the Agenzia delle Entrate applies to all merchants and service providers that accept card payments. The Italian tax authority (Agenzia delle Entrate) has published guidelines for implementation. For more information on the requirements for cash register systems, please visit our page on fiscalization in Italy.
No physical connection between the devices is required. Instead, companies use a simplified online platform available on the Agenzia delle Entrate portal.
Go to the Agenzia delle Entrate portal and link the serial number of the cash register to the payment terminal details. The system will automatically display the registered payment terminals.
The connection is NOT physical, but telematic:
Important note: Saturdays are not considered working days for the purpose of this deadline.
Updates: Any changes (POS replacement, new connection) must be reported according to the same schedule.
At the time of sale, the cash register must accurately record each electronic payment and indicate the payment method and amount on the receipt.
