Peppol is a standardized framework and network for the secure exchange of electronic business documents, particularly e-invoices. It enables companies, government agencies, and software solutions to exchange documents in a structured and interoperable manner.
Peppol is based on a network of certified access points that forward documents between senders and recipients. Companies connect to the network and exchange documents using standardized formats and identifiers.
Peppol enables the standardized, secure, and scalable exchange of invoices across systems and countries. It reduces manual effort, enables seamless integration, and supports efficient digital processes.
A Peppol Access Point is the certified access point through which companies or systems send and receive documents on the Peppol network.
A Peppol ID is a unique identifier used to identify participants in the network and ensure that documents are routed correctly.
Peppol is relevant for companies that want to streamline e-invoicing and digital document exchange, as well as for ERP, POS, and PMS providers and system integrators. In some countries, Peppol is also mandatory and thus a key component of compliance.
Access is typically provided through certified service providers, so the costs depend on the provider and the scope of services.
The connection is provided by a certified access point provider. Depending on the system environment, integration is achieved via APIs, middleware, or direct system connections.
With the efsta Peppol Access Point, ERP, POS, and PMS system providers are directly connected to the Peppol network, enabling them to send compliant e-invoices to business partners and government agencies.

efsta automatically converts the data into the Peppol BIS Billing 3.0 / UBL 2.1 format and validates it according to European and Peppol rules (EN 16931).
Transmission via Peppol
efsta acts as an access point and transmits the invoice to the recipient’s system using the Peppol ID.
Self-service corrections
Incorrect data can be corrected via a secure correction link, and the invoice can be resent.
Currently, the integration supports the sending of Peppol e-invoices. Receipt is not yet available.
